Choose between Twilio and your own SIP carrier

There are two ways to give your AI agent a phone number: connect a Twilio number, or bring a number from your own SIP carrier. Here is how to choose one.

Your AI agent can answer a phone number in one of two ways, both set up on the Voice settings tab. This helps you pick the right one.

Twilio

Connect your Twilio account, then pick one of your voice-capable Twilio numbers. Mando configures the routing for you, so there is little setup on your side. This path also supports forwarding an escalated call to a human phone number.

Your own SIP carrier

With Bring your own SIP, you keep your number on any other carrier, such as Telnyx, Bandwidth or Vonage, and point it at the SIP host Mando gives you. Mando never needs your carrier login, but you do the routing in your carrier console. Phone-to-phone forwarding is not supported here yet, so escalations go to your dashboard inbox.

Which to pick

Pick Twilio for the least setup and for forwarding calls to a human number. Pick Bring your own SIP to keep an existing number on another carrier. Both are set by an admin, and you can use both at once across your apps.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use both?

Yes. You can connect Twilio numbers and bring-your-own-SIP numbers in the same organization.

Which supports call forwarding to a human?

Only Twilio for now. On bring-your-own-SIP, escalations go to the inbox.

Does Mando charge for the number?

No. Your carrier bills you for the number and its minutes; Mando provides the AI layer.
