Why your calls end before your maximum length

A voice call can end before your Max call duration for a few reasons: a silence timeout, the caller hanging up, or running low on voice credits mid-call.

You set a Max call duration for voice calls, but a call can end sooner for several reasons. Here are the limits that can end a call early.

Silence timeout

If the caller goes quiet, the AI waits for your Inactivity timeout, asks "Are you still there?", and hangs up if there is still no answer. Raise the Inactivity timeout on the Voice settings Limits card if callers need longer pauses.

The caller hangs up

The call ends as soon as the caller leaves the line. This is the most common early end and is normal.

Running low on voice credits

Phone calls are also capped by your remaining credits. Because voice uses credits by the minute, a low balance shortens a call, and it ends earlier than your Max call duration with the usual goodbye. Top up credits to allow full-length calls.

One more case: if the caller asked for a human and no one answered, the call ends after the ring timeout.

Frequently asked questions

My calls stop at a couple of minutes.

Check Max call duration on the Limits card, and your credit balance, since a low balance caps the length.

Callers get cut off during a pause.

Raise the Inactivity timeout so quiet moments do not end the call.

The call ended right after asking for a human.

No teammate answered within the ring timeout, so the AI ended the call. It shows as a missed call.
